3D PACKAGE DESIGN AND ILLUSTRATION

My Hero Academia is a japanese animation that takes place in a world where super powers are common. After drawing fanart of each of my favorite characters and associating a flavor with their superpower, I reimagined my illustrations as packaging material for energy drinks.

ILLUSTRATION ON PAPER AND PROCREATE

When I first sketched out my stylized versions of the characters, I admit I had no intention of creating them as flavors. But after taking a look at the final sketches, they looked similar to mascot logos that are usually used on Japanese vending machine cans. With that being said, I decided to color them in Procreate and make them into drink flavors.

VECTORIZING TRADITIONAL IN ILLUSTRATOR

Because my art style uses many textures and brush strokes, I called it a finished product without the intention to continue. However, I really wanted to make it into something more and not just labels. So, decided to pick up where I left off to make them into actual designs for packaging. When transferring them onto Illustrator, I designed packaging to reflect the character's personalities in the anime.

MOCK-UPS AND ADOBE DEMENSION

I knew I wanted to use Mock-ups to produce the look and feel of the can. I also knew I wanted to make the can smaller than the standard U.S. can since I really liked the small cans in Japan vending machines.I wanted a very specific material for the can with a white clean background to complement my simple design. From there, I adjusted the demensions and material to create the perfect little superpower drink.

FINAL DESIGNS AND INSIGHT

In the end I was very pleasantly surprised with how it came out. After buying multiple cans at Japanese supermarkets to research what a can would actually look like in a vending machine, I think it paid off knowing that I wanted to design for an children, a marketing strategy that was inspired by the animation's storyline.
